A month out from us taking our trip my husband went on line and made a reservation for a night in Sturbridge, Ma. We wanted to be sure we had somewhere to stay for the night instead of taking up a space from a trucker.

We get to TT around 8 pm and the host is telling us its a first come first serve. We tell him that we made and paid for a reservation. Doesn't matter. We had no reserved site.

We ended up in there storage lot at the fee of the reservation we made for a site.

At that point we just wanted to be off the road. I can guarantee you that TT will never be in our vocabulary again, and we will warn any one we know.

You had a reservation just not a specific site reserved. Did you arrive after check in ended? That's the only reason you would be forced to stay in parking lot for night.

That makes no sense. Retail spaces are assigned or at least sectioned off.

Members cannot utilize a retail site... many are empty while members are turned away.

Thousand trails has ALWAYS been a first come first serve for members and anyone else. We all have paid one way or another for camping. If you get late you get whatโ€™s left, BUT they should have said they were full booked

Although I've seen people arrive in peak season 6 hours after checkin began and get some of the best sites, so you never know..,

At least 1 system Thousand Trails took over, allows members to stay until camp closes in the evening to visitors, not having to check out or move rig off of the campsite at designated checkout time.

Not quite accurate. Some parks delineate the best sites for retail sales, and only allow members to last minute book via telephone to the park office for a night if not reserved by Retail for the night. Revenue is sometimes double or triple for Retail sites, but when not sold the park can get the member-reimbursement rate $32/nite allotted by Corporate by filling it with a member. Also increases they usage/demand stats which gains them increased operations budget from Corporate as well as possible improvements to park.
